Clone storage groups

Storage groups are a collection of devices that are stored on the array, and an application, a server, or a collection of servers use them.

About this task

This procedure explains how to take a clone of a storage group. The wizard creates a target storage group and corresponding target devices to match the source devices. The clone option is displayed only for storage groups the can be a clone source. If the storage group cannot be a clone source, the clone option is not displayed on the first page of the protect wizard.

Steps

  1. Select the storage system.
  2. Select Storage > Storage Groups.
  3. Select the storage group and click Protect.
  4. Select Create a Clone using TimeFinder Clone.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Specify whether the target storage group is new or existing. Do one of the following:
      1. Select New.
      2. Accept the default name or type the Clone Target Storage Group Name. Any new name must be unique to the array, contain only alphanumeric characters, and be no more than 64 characters long.
      1. Select Existing.
      2. Select an existing storage group. You can type a partial name in the search box to filter the list of existing storage groups. The storage group list displays only storage groups that have a configuration that is suitable for use as a target storage group.
  7. Optionally, click Advanced Options and select one or more of the options.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Verify your selections. To change any of them, click Back.
    Some changes may require you to make extra changes to your configuration.
  10. Do one of the following:
    • Click Run Now to perform the operation now.
    • Expand Run Now and click Add to Job List to add this task to the job list, from which you can schedule or run the task at your convenience. For more information, see Schedule jobs and Preview jobs.
